St. Joe’s at a Glance:
- Grades Kindergarten through 8th grade.
Kindergarten is 1/2 day.
- School day hours 8:00 am to 3:00 pm with supervision beginning at 7:30 am and ending at 3:15 pm
- Office hours 8:00 am to 3:30 pm
- Weekly all school Mass, usually on Tuesday, at St. John’s. Students of all denominations participate together in Mass
- Average class size is 20-24 students, with 2 classes of each grade in most grades
- Teachers have an average of
13 years of experience
- Uniform dress code
- After school care available
- Healthy breakfast, snack and hot lunch offerings
- Full curriculum including art, music, physical education, after school sports etc.
- Science lab is the most modern elementary/middle school lab in the city, public or private.
- Media center houses 25 online computers and includes one of the best elementary libraries in the state with over 10,000 volumes
- Individual classrooms K-8 are equipped with 5 to 10 computers each and the middle school shares 20 laptop computers
- Art Room is staffed with a certified teacher and includes a pottery wheel and kiln
- Spanish taught as part of the regular school day in grades K-5
- Many sports, music, academic and other extracurricular activities offered
- Full size gym which is the biggest elementary/middle school gym in the city
- Age appropriate community service requirements – both individual and as a class
- All staff and volunteers who work with children must have a background check and must complete a Safe Environment class
- Beautiful, historical, downtown location convenient to many work places and residences
- As Idaho's first parochial school, St. Joseph's has served the children of Idaho and their families continuously for more than 100 years
- Founded in 1868 in Idaho City by the Sisters of Holy Cross
- St. Joseph’s is fully accredited by the state of Idaho and the National Catholic Educator Association (NCEA)
and the State Department of Idaho
- Registered, participating parishioners are eligible for lower tuition provided by the parishioners of St. John’s. Additional financial assistance is available in many cases.
- All full time faculty are certified by the Idaho Department of Education
As Idaho’s oldest parochial school, St.
Joseph’s school has a background rich in
history. Throughout the years, a variety of
priests, sisters and bishops put their hearts
and souls into making sure that local students
could get a Catholic education – nothing stopped
them - not even a fire!
