Physical Education is offered as part of the
curriculum in all grades. In addition, St.
Joe's offers extracurricular sports for boys and
girls in grades 5-8. Besides improving skills
particular to a certain sport, participating in
team sports can help encourage children to
develop an active lifestyle as well as helping
to develop important social skills such as
learning how to work as a team.
5th & 6th Grade Basketball
With an emphasis on learning the rules and
basics of basketball, this non-competitive
season begins for girls in early fall. For boys, the season
begins in January and finishes in February.
Practices are held at the school on weekdays.
Coached by staff or parent volunteers, all
students of all skill levels abilities are
encouraged to participate. Games are after
school and are played both at St. Joe's and
other schools in the Boise area.
Crusaders Invitational:
In addition to the regular season, the Pocatello
parishes organize a springtime Catholic schools
basketball tournament called the Crusaders
Invitational, generally held in March, for fifth
and sixth grade boys and girls. This
tournament, hosted by Idaho State University,
usually begins on Friday afternoon and concludes
with a championship game on Sunday.
5th & 6th Track & Field
Our 5th & 6th grade track
program is part of the Boise Schools Sports
Program and is a combination team comprised of
students from St. Joseph's, St. Mary's,
Foothills, Anser, Sacred Heart, St. Mark's,
Hidden Springs, Riverstone, Arrowrock, and home
schoolers. Practices begin in mid March and our
held at Bishop Kelly High School. The season
includes a few regular track meets, a regional
meet and participation in the City Meet in early
May for those who qualify.
6th- 8th TVCS Sports
Students in grades six through eight participate
in the Treasure Valley Catholic Schools (TVCS)
cooperative program, which forms teams from all
the Catholic schools in the Treasure Valley to
participate in the Intervalley League Junior
High Conference. Sports offered include
volleyball, cross-country, football, wrestling,
basketball, tennis, and track and field.
Sixth graders may participate in TVCS cross
country, wrestling, tennis, track and quiz bowl;
all TVCS sports are open to seventh and eighth
graders.

Hallissey Basketball Tournament
In addition, a 7th and 8th
grade girls and boys basketball tournament
organized by the Catholic parishes of Idaho is
held in February of every year, usually during
President's Day weekend. All youth of the
parish are invited to participate. Named after
Msgr. Hallissey, this is a
fun tradition that gets Catholic youth together
from all over the valley. Students look forward
to this event all year long!
