  Activities & Events - Sports

Physical Education is offered as part of the curriculum in all grades.  In addition, St. Joe's offers extracurricular sports for boys and girls in grades 5-8.  Besides improving skills particular to a certain sport, participating in team sports can help encourage children to develop an active lifestyle as well as helping to develop important social skills such as learning how to work as a team.

5th & 6th Grade Basketball

With an emphasis on learning the rules and basics of basketball, this non-competitive season begins for girls in early fall.  For boys, the season begins in January and finishes in February.  Practices are held at the school on weekdays.  Coached by staff or parent volunteers, all students of all skill levels abilities are encouraged to participate.  Games are after school and are played both at St. Joe's and other schools in the Boise area.

Crusaders Invitational:

In addition to the regular season, the Pocatello parishes organize a springtime Catholic schools basketball tournament called the Crusaders Invitational, generally held in March, for fifth and sixth grade boys and girls.  This tournament, hosted by Idaho State University, usually begins on Friday afternoon and concludes with a championship game on Sunday.

5th & 6th Track & Field

Our 5th & 6th grade track program is part of the Boise Schools Sports Program and is a combination team comprised of students from St. Joseph's, St. Mary's, Foothills, Anser, Sacred Heart, St. Mark's, Hidden Springs, Riverstone, Arrowrock, and home schoolers.  Practices begin in mid March and our held at Bishop Kelly High School.  The season includes a few regular track meets, a regional meet and participation in the City Meet in early May for those who qualify.

Hallissey Basketball Tournament

In addition, a 7th and 8th grade girls and boys basketball tournament organized by the Catholic parishes of Idaho is held in February of every year, usually during President's Day weekend.  All youth of the parish are invited to participate.  Named after Bishop Hallissey, this is a fun tradition that gets Catholic youth together from all over the valley.  Students look forward to this event all year long!
