Good afternoon St. Joseph’s Families,

Happy Thursday to all! We have had a good week at St. Joseph’s Catholic School. We implemented our plan for full on-site learning on Monday, October 26th. Our plan we put in place has proven to be a good one, we have had to make a few minor adjustments but overall, things are going very well

Costumes for Halloween

Kindergarten through 5th grade may wear their Halloween costumes to school on Friday, October 30th. Students must continue to wear their masks that day so keep that in mind when applying any face make-up. Please make sure that costumes are not gory and there are no fake weapons. Middle school students may wear black. orange, yellow, green or purple – no sweats, leggings or pants with holes/rips in them. Of course, students may also wear St. Joseph’s school spirit wear since it is Friday.

As we celebrate holidays and birthdays, please remember that we cannot have outside treats brought into the school this school year. Thank you for understanding.

COVID-19

In our 11th week of school, we have had one student test positive for COVID-19. Current COVID tracking information for St. Joseph’s HERE.

  • If your family has been exposed to someone with COVID-19, please keep all children home.

  • If you have a child sick at home, please keep siblings home as well – see Illness Decision Tree for Schools

We want to be able to continue our in person learning throughout the year and we need your help. We all need to practice the 3 W’s both in and out of school:

  • Wear a Mask – all people on our school campus must wear a mask

  • Wash your hands

  • Watch your distance when with others

If your family travels (this means your school-age children are traveling with the family) out of state during the remainder of the school year, we ask that you self-quarantine for three days following your return.

Absences

Parents, please notify the front office if your child will be absent for any reason. We need this information to continue to track daily absence rates. Mrs. Granvall’s email is granvalla@stjoes.com

Volunteers Needed

I have five people who are volunteering. We still need two to three more each ½ hour shift- Monday-Friday lunch and recess. First shift would start at 11:25 and the last shift ends at 1:00; we rotate through every ½ hour. We can work in ½ hour shifts. This would help our teachers so they can take a lunch break and not have to supervise students. Volunteers must have completed Safe Environment Training. Please email me if you are interested in helping out – emericht@stjoes.com

Faculty and Staff

We hired our middle school instructional assistants and a part time 2nd grade instructional aide.  Welcome to our middle school instructional aides, Mr. Philip Principi and part-time Mr. Joe Emerich – they have really helped tremendously as our middle school has made the transition to full in-person learning.  Our part time 2nd grade instructional aide, Mrs. Angie Shaltry is starting today.

It is such a privilege and blessing to be able to pray and worship together. Mass will be livestreamed and recorded for those students not attending in person. Mass dress is required for those attending Mass in person.

Here is the Mass Schedule for the next two weeks:

Tues – Nov 3

8:15 AM

8th and 1st in Cathedral

Tues – Nov 10

St. John’s Parish/School Connection

Please continue to support St. John’s Parish or your local parish – donations have decreased since the onset of COVID-19 and we need to help our Catholic Parishes out more than ever. Please help us fill the Box of Joy packages for children in need. We partnered with St. John’s Parish last year and surpassed all expectations. Please see the information in this week’s bulletin.

Please reach out with questions or concerns as we continue to navigate this unprecedented school year.
