4.8.21 Principal’s Blog

Good afternoon St. Joseph’s Families,

I hope you and your family had a blessed Easter break. Fourth quarter is under way and learning abounds! It is hard to believe that we only have 35 days of school left. Please check our Plus Portals system for updated grades and assignments.

Living our Faith

We had 10 St. Joseph’s students enter the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil at St. John’s. Congratulations to these students and their families.

We are in the Liturgical Season of Easter.  The Easter season lasts from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday. As Catholics, this season calls us to focus on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our 2nd grade students are continuing their preparation for First Holy Communion.

Update: St. John’s Parish has been able to reinstate most of the subsidy they provide to St. Joseph’s. They have seen a great increase in attendance at Mass. We are so grateful to St. John’s Parish for their continued support of our school. St. Joseph’s Catholic School is the largest ministry of St. John’s Parish – please continue to support St. John’s Parish.

Tuesday, April 13th is our school Mass day with 2nd and 3rd grade students live in the Cathedral. Mass dress is required for those attending Mass in person.

I am excited to announce that we will be able to have a modified version of our school Fun Run on Friday, May 14th. This has always been a tradition here at St. Joe’s and we want the kids to have some fun!  Please look for more details in this week’s school bulletin.

St. Joseph’s Advisory School Board Elected Position

The St. Joseph’s Catholic School Advisory School Board will be holding an election for two positions on the board.  The standard term is three years.  If this is a position you are interested in or want to nominate someone for, please contact Anita Miller (millera@stjoes.com) and provide her with a brief bio.  If nominating someone, please provide the name and brief reason why they would be a good member for the school board.  Please communicate nominations to Anita Miller by April 23, 2021.

COVID

We will continue to monitor and adjust as we see best for the health and safety of our school community. Thank you all for your support and patience!

With seven weeks left in the school year, we have zero positive cases of COVID-19. We were notified of two positive cases late last week – no student exposure as students had been in quarantine. Thank you for helping us keep our school open and our illness numbers low.

Current COVID tracking information for St. Joseph’s HERE.

  • If your family has been exposed to someone with COVID-19, please keep all children home. If anyone in your family is being tested for COVID-19 keep all children home.
  • If any immediate family member is experiencing any illness symptoms- keep all children home – siblings must stay home as well per our safety protocols
  • Please consider the health and safety or our broader community – continue to practice our 3 W’s:
  • Wear a Mask – all people on our school campus must wear a mask
  • Wash your hands
  • Watch your distance when with others

Return to Classrooms/Distance Learning

Tuesday, April 6th, all St. Joseph’s students, K-8th grades, were back in the regular classrooms. According to recent CDC guidelines, social distancing requirements have been adjusted to 3 to 6 feet. Our 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th grade classes have already been successful in this model – some as early as January. We will continue to wear masks as long as the mask mandate is in place.

With this change, classes will no longer be live streamed each day. If a student is quarantined due to COVID-19 or other illness, he or she will have access to Google classroom and student work will be available for pick up right outside the entrance to the school.

We feel that this will be another positive step. Having students in the classroom and in front of our wonderful teachers is going to be beneficial not only for our students, but for our teachers as well.

Hiring for the 2021-2022 School Year

For the 2021-2022 school year, St. Joe’s will be hiring a music teacher and a Development/Marketing Director. These jobs are posted on our school website and the Diocesan website If you know of someone who would be a great fit for our school, please refer them to one of these sites.

Thank you for being a part of our St. Joseph’s Community! Have a Blessed Easter.

Blessings,

Tammy Emerich
