9.24.2020 Principal’s News

Good afternoon St. Joseph’s Families,

Happy Autumn to all! We have had a great sixth week of school – students are really getting back into a routine of learning. We also had our second student Mass for the school year.

Just a reminder, students do not have school on Friday, October 2nd. Our teachers are attending the Catholic Educator’s Conference. We will have a religious retreat and attend classes to enrich our faith – all virtually of course!

Last week, I invited families who had chosen distance learning to come back before the end of the first quarter which is October 16th. We originally had 37 students distance learning; we now have 12.

I am going to send a survey out to our families this afternoon to get input on how hybrid learning is going and what would work best for your family as we consider the possibility of bringing most students back on campus. We value your input.

Toward the end of next week, Fr. Mariusz and I will discuss the input from our St. Joseph’s community and decide what is the best path for our students during the 2nd quarter of school.

New Faculty and Staff

I would like to introduce you to our new school nurse – Maggie Sup. Nurse Sup, as she likes to be called, is an RN and comes to us with over 20 years of nursing experience primarily in surgery and oncology. Maggie loves working with kids and has volunteered at Camp Rainbow Gold for over 24 years. She has two amazing grown sons.

Maggie Sup and Janelle Carr both share the especially important nursing position here at St. Joseph’s. Maggie is our nurse on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Janelle is our nurse on Thursday and Friday. We are blessed to have such amazing women care for us!

We are also looking for a middle school instructional assistant. This person would help oversee the middle school distance learning and help with supervision of students. Please send me an email if you know of someone who might be a good fit for this position and join our middle school team.

COVID-19

In our 6th week of school, we have not had any students test positive for COVID-19. Praise God! Our families are doing the right thing keeping sick students home.

We want to be able to continue our in person learning throughout the year and we need your help. We all need to practice the 3 W’s both in and out of school:

  • Wear a Mask – all people on our school campus must wear a mask

  • Wash your hands

  • Watch your distance when with others

Air Quality

We are monitoring our air quality hourly; students go to recess if the air quality is below 150. If we are in the red zone (unhealthy category), students do not go to recess or have outdoor PE.

Week of September 28th-October 1st

Here is information for the fifth week of school:

When arriving and leaving school, please cross the street at the crosswalks – do not jay walk. Drop off and pick up times remain the same as the last few weeks. Please do not double park on the streets surrounding the school – this could cause a dangerous situation. No school on Friday, October 2nd.

School Requirements:

We want to be able to continue our in person learning throughout the year and we need your help. We all need to practice the 3 W’s both in and out of school:

  • Wear a Mask – all people on our school campus must wear a mask

  • Wash your hands

  • Watch your distance when with others

Just a reminder, we are trying to limit the number of people in the building. If possible, please drop things off at the front door and we will pick the items up. Thank you for your help with this.

School Mass

We had our second school Mass for the 2020-2021 school year on Tuesday afternoon. It is such a privilege and blessing to be back at Mass. St. John’s Parish/School Connection

St. Joseph’s School and St. John’s Parish have a strong relationship. St. Joseph’s Catholic school is St. John’s Parish’s biggest ministry.

For those interested in becoming Catholic or receiving any of the Sacraments. The deadline for enrollment is October 1, 2020. Please contact St. John’s Parish if you would like to learn more.

Please continue to support St. John’s Parish or your local parish – donations have decreased since the onset of COVID-19 and we need to help our Catholic Parishes out more than ever.

Please reach out to me if you have questions or concerns – sometimes the best thing is to pick up the phone and have a conversation. We are all in this together.

Today's Prayer | Prayer for today, Prayer scriptures, Sunday prayer

We are so grateful to all of you and for all of you; we are grateful for your patience, understanding and grace as we navigate this unprecedented school year.

Take Care and God Bless,
