St. Joseph’s School is accredited by the Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA). The mission of WCEA is to promote quality Catholic education for students in its member elementary and secondary schools through an accrediting process that assures the primacy of faith formation and educational excellence.

Every six years, St. Joe’s undergoes a process of self-study, and then a WCEA team visits the school to review the self-study and school environment. St. Joe’s staff has spent the last year reflecting and preparing for this visit. On February 3-5, 2016, a team of educators visited St. Joseph’s School. The Visiting Committee was composed of educators who are trained evaluators from other schools with educational expertise. Led by Sister Catherine Kamphaus, CSC (WCEA Board of Directors Vice Chair), the team included: Cynthia Burchett (Saint John the Baptist Elementary, Draper, UT), Mike Caldwell (Bishop Kelly High School), Angela Hild (St. Edward’s, Twin Falls), Tina Jackson (All Saints, Lewiston), Annette Wall (St. Paul’s, Nampa), Cheri Workman (Sacred Heart).

The Accreditation Team observed and assessed St. Joseph’s: Catholic Identity, Organization for Learning (how the school is governed and administrated), Curriculum and Instruction, Support Services (academic counseling, assisting students with special needs, spiritual counseling) and Resources (financial and human resources).

The Visiting Committee rated St. Joseph’s Catholic School “highly effective” in all areas that were assessed.  They affirmed the three goals that St. Joe’s wrote in the self study:

#1 provide additional learning support for students with special learning needs

#2 prepare our students and staff for their immediate and long term future academically and spiritually through the efficient and responsible use of technology

#3 improve student learning in the area of writing and grammar instruction

St. Joe’s has already begun work toward each of these goals. We are excited to continue to grow and improve.  The rigorous accreditation process provides accountability that our school is continually working toward its goals.

St. Joe’s greatly appreciates the prayers and support of the St. John’s community, Fr. Jerry Funke, the St. Joe’s School Board, our parents and students. The Accreditation Visit was a great success, and we look forward to hearing news about our Accreditation Status in May.
