8.30.19 – Back to School Night

Good afternoon St. Joseph’s Families,

Thank you to those of you who were able to make it to our Back to School Night on Tuesday. It was a great way for us to come together as a community and officially kick off our school year!

Our Saint for the 2019-2020 school year is Saint Kateri. According to Catholic Online, St. Kateri Tekakwitha is the first Native American to be recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church. She was born in 1656, in the Mohawk village of Ossernenon.  She was a model of Christian Life and helped the elderly and sick. She saw in nature a reflection of God’s glory and beauty. We will honor St. Kateri at our Tuesday Mass next week and will unveil the banner in the hallway. All are welcome and we hope you can
join us at Mass.

School Safety
Safety is my number one priority for our students, faculty and staff at St. Joseph’s. We had our first safety drill of the year this morning. We practiced a fire drill – it went smoothly. We will have monthly safety drills throughout the school year.

Academic Excellence
Classes are off to a great start this year. Students are learning the routines and working hard. I am beginning my walk through observations and learning about all the great things going on in our school. We are truly blessed in so many ways!

I want to let you know that my door is always open to address any questions or concerns you might have. Please feel free to email me at emericht@stjoes.com  or call and set up a time for us to meet. Thank you for your commitment and investment in Catholic education.

Have a great three day weekend – enjoy the last days of summer!

Blessings,
Tammy Emerich

8.23.19 – Welcome Back to School!

Good afternoon St. Joseph’s Families,

I am so glad that our students are back to school! Every school year we have an opportunity to start anew – new teachers, new classroom, new schedule and a chance to meet new friends – what a blessing!!  We have just about completed our first week of the 2019-2020 school year. The faculty, staff and students are getting into their daily routines. Students are already actively engaged in learning and continuing their faith journey! I know everyone will be tired by tomorrow afternoon!

Back to School Night

Please plan on joining us for Back to School Night on Tuesday, August 27th from 6:00-8:00 PM. We will welcome parents in the gym at 6:00 for general information and introduction of teachers and other important information. We will then have several sessions for each grade level where teachers will provide information about the upcoming school year. This is a general overview of the school year – if you have questions or concerns about your child, please schedule a separate meeting with your child’s teacher.  We’ll see you on Tuesday evening.

After School Pick Up Change

Safety of our students and staff is my first priority as principal of our school.

Strengthening our Faith and Academic Excellence are of next importance. A safety concern was raised with so many people in the building toward the end of our school day; in addition, a quiet, positive learning environment for all of our students is key. At 3:00 o’clock, during the 2019-2020 School year, we ask kindergarten through 2nd grade parents to pick up children outside on the west side of the playground. Classes will be lined up with their teacher and will be dismissed once the parent (or older sibling) picks up the child. Third – Eighth grade students will be dismissed and be to the east side of the playground (same as last year). Thank you in advance for helping with this important safety adjustment.

I want to let you know that my door is always open to address any questions or concerns you might have. Please feel free to email me at emericht@stjoes.com  or call and set up a time for us to meet. Thank you for your commitment and investment in your child’s/children’s education.

Blessings,

8.16.19 – Welcome Back to School!

Welcome Back to School!

Good afternoon to all St. Joseph’s Families,

It was great meeting many of our families at the supply drop off this afternoon! I am so excited to begin the 2019-2020 school year at St. Joseph’s Catholic School. I look forward to serving the St. Joe’s community; the faculty and staff, students, parents, pastor and school board members. It is a true privilege to be here.

Safety of our students and staff is my first priority as principal of our school. Strengthening our Faith and Academic Excellence are of next importance.

A safety concern has been raised with so many people in the building toward the end of our school day; in addition, we must maintain a quiet, positive learning environment for all of our students. 8.9.19 – Hello to all St. Joseph’s Families

Hello to all St. Joseph’s Families,

A big Welcome to our St. Joseph’s families as we begin the 2019-2020 school year! We are starting our 119th year as a school and continuing the legacy and traditions of St. Joseph’s Catholic School.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself. I am excited to be named the next principal of St. Joseph’s Catholic School. I am a career educator and taught English for many years before becoming a school administrator. I have been an administrator of Catholic Schools for the past nine years.

My faith is strengthened each day through prayer and having the amazing opportunity to work in a Catholic school setting with faith-filled faculty and amazing students and their families! Serving at St. Joseph’s will allow  me to continue on my faith journey and my commitment to education! I am married to my wonderful husband Mike and we are blessed with an incredible son, Joseph who currently attends Bishop Kelly. Joe attended St. Joe’s in middle school and he had a great experience there. He still speaks very fondly of his middle school teachers.

I look forward to serving the St. Joe’s community; the faculty and staff, students, parents, pastor and school board members. It is a true privilege to be here. Together, we can continue to continue the traditions and strengthen all that St. Joseph’s Catholic School has to offer.

Here are some important upcoming events where I hope to meet all of our parents and students.

  • School Supply Drop off and popsicle social on August 16th from 2:00 – 3:00 PM
  • Back to School Night  on August 27th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

Staffing

We have two new faculty members this year- Please join me in welcoming:

  • Cynthia Vieira will be our new second grade teacher and
  • Kimberly Anderson will be our new art teacher.
  • David Maxwell will be the K-5 PE teacher and athletic director for St. Joseph’s sports teams and sports.

Academics

St. Joseph’s has a great reputation for Academic Excellence. In an effort to continuously improve, we are changing a few things from last year; these things were implemented at the end of the school year.  I have been working with the faculty already this summer on solidifying these changes.

  • 7 Period Day:  one less class, longer classes for more direct instruction, longer lunch for students
  • Electives for 6-8th Grade:  new electives –  including the 6th grade in this rotation. This has proven to be a bit challenging but we will continue to work with teachers and students for best placement and scheduling.
  • Literacy Block Pilot in First Grade: 90 minute block with 5 stations to best meet student needs and grow literacy and comprehension levels even more than we do now.

St. Joseph’s Advisory School Board

  • Please welcome Gary Martinez (parent of a first grade student) to the school board.
  • School Advisory Board Meeting is Monday, August 12th at 5:00 PM in the library

I want to let you know that my door is always open to address any questions or concerns you might have. Please feel free to email me at emericht@stjoes.com or call and set up a time for us to meet. Thank you for your commitment and investment in your child’s/children’s education.

Blessings,

Back to School: Prayer for the Start of the School Year

Loving God, Our creator, our saviour, our companion, bless this journey of a new school year that we undertake today. Refresh our souls and renew our spirits as we embrace the beautiful ministry you have called us to. We welcome those who are new to this community and ask that you strengthen them to share the wonderful gifts you have given them. Lord, make our hearts pure as we prepare for the return of students to this school, and may you guide them to return with open hearts and minds eager to learn. We ask this in Your name, Amen.

Drop Off Before School

Due to the construction on the steps on the St. John’s Cathedral steps, the drive-up and drop off lane on 8th St. will be shifted from in front of the steps to past the alley in front of the gymnasium.  Link to Morning Drop Off Procedures

Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students will be checked out by their respective teachers in the classrooms.  Second grade is included this year due to the construction on the steps.
