Welcome back to St. Joseph’s Catholic School! It is an exciting first day of school!
New staff: Christy Porter, our new counselor–she comes to us with an extensive background in social work; she has lots of community resources and experience with suicide prevention and accommodation plans. She will be a great resource for staff and families. Ricardo Yanci will be teaching three periods of middle school religion and 5th grade in the afternoons. We are excited to have him back with us. Katie Patrick–she attended St. Joe’s and Bishop Kelly. She has experience tutoring students and working with reading interventions. She will be a full time instructional aide; half or her day will be assisting middle school. Having an aide in middle school is new, and we are excited about the opportunity to assist our older students.
Our school looks amazing, and we need to thank Mr. Aspiri, Mr. Denino, and Mr. Haji for their great work! We have new carpet, new blinds, new paint! The school looks fresh. K-2 have a new cart of devices. The counselor’s office and reading specialists’ offices are complete and very functional.
Please join us for Mass this Sunday at 5 p.m. at St. John’s; our students are doing the readings. After Mass, we will have an “All American BBQ” social from 6-8 p.m. It is a great time to meet new families and reconnect with other families.
Back to School Night is Wednesday, Aug. 31. This is a night for PARENTS ONLY to come get information about their children’s classes. To accommodate families with multiple ages of children: the K-5 teachers will give identical presentations at 6 and 6:20 p.m. Middle school parents will gather in the gym at 6:45, and then they will rotate to all of their child’s classes from 7-8. If you only have a middle school student, you do not need to arrive until 6:45 p.m. If you have two children K-5, you can attend one presentation at 6 and the other presentation at 6:20.
Drop-off Lane Closures: The church is getting a new air conditioning until. The drop-off lane will be closed on multiple days between Aug. 24 and Sept. 9. We will try to inform you in advance. If you see cones marking off the drop-off lane, please do not use it. Please park in the parking lot, or drop your students off along 8th Street. We will be ushering students into the gym (on 8th Street), as the playground will also be closed.
Kindergarten 2017-18: If you have a child who will be in kindergarten next year, please get them on the list. Our list is filling up quickly.
Uniform: Our uniform policy and expectations have NOT changed. Please be respectful to all students and families and make sure that you child is in the uniform each day. This includes shoes that are solid navy, red, white, black, or brown. No sandals, boots, or flip-flops. Socks also should be solid red, navy, or white with no stripes or decorations. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
Have a blessed week!

Wednesday, Sept. 2 is the St. Joseph’s School’s Back to School Night.
Welcome back to St. Joe’s School!
It has been a great week! Students have experienced our new playground/parking lot, eaten from the new salad bar, and transitioned into the next grade. The excitement is contagious.
Thank you for your patience as we change and grow. Everything we do is centered on student learning, and there are rationales behind all of the changes. If you have questions and/or concerns, please ask!
It was an amazing summer, and I am sad to see it go. However, I am excited about the upcoming school year and the new adventures that await!
Back to School:
There are several activities planned to help you transition back into school mode. I want to thank Tisha McGarry for organizing several playdates for new and old students.
