Meet Our Saints of the Year

Our Saints of the Year are St. Josephine Bakhita and Blessed Carlo Acutis. They are wonderful examples to the entire St. Joe’s community!

Blessed Carlo Acutis was a computer savvy teenager who had a deep devotion to the Eucharist leading to him creating a website cataloging miracles around the world. He also liked films, soccer, comic editing and playing PlayStation video games. Carlo passed away in 2006 at age 15. He is a great inspiration to young people in our time and students at St. Joe’s.
St. Josephine Bakhita was born in Sudan in 1869. She was kidnapped into slavery as a child and endured many horrors. After being bought and sold several times she was accompanying her owner’s daughter at an Italian school run by religious sisters when she learned about the Church. When it was time to leave the convent to return to Sudan, Josephine refused and the disagreement reached the Italian courts. They ruled her a free woman and she stayed in Italy and decided to take her vows to enter the convent she had been at. She dedicated her life to assisting her community and teaching others to love God. She was known for her smile, gentleness and holiness. There is so much to learn about her and we encourage everyone to read more about her life!
